January 22nd is the 44th Anniversary for legalized abortion. What Does the Bible Say About it?
God only knows of the multiplied millions of babies that have been “aborted” since this irresponsible decree. Statistics show that more than 1 1/2 million unborn babies each year, more than 58 million since 1973, are sacrificed at the altar of pleasure and convenience. Many different terms are used to soften the impact of abortion: unwanted pregnancy, fetal tissue, bad timing, etc. However, the reality of abortion would better be described by such terms as: terminated, discarded, eliminated, disposed of, massacre, butchery, slaughter, holocaust, genocide. Call it what you will, it’s still murder!
Our society treats animal life with more respect than it does human life. Let a man dispose of unwanted animals by tossing them into a barrel of acid or a hay bailer and society will be outraged! Yet doctors can cut to pieces, burn alive, and tear to shreds all the babies they can collect money for and they have the sanction of the law. But the same doctors could abort life of a single baby eagle by the same methods and who knows what would happen to them! Strange indeed! Instead of progressing in the sanctity and respect of human life, our society in this respect is rapidly digressing. Abortion is the end result of evolution and atheism. What if your mother had aborted you? It is even as the Bible says, “while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.” (II Timothy 3:13 ESV). Don’t be deceived!
“And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb” (Luke 1:41). The word “baby” here describes the unborn (Luke 1:41, 44), infants (Luke 2:12, 16; 18:15; 1 Peter 2:2), and young children (Acts 7:19; II Timothy 3:15). If it’s wrong to kill a baby after birth then it’s wrong to kill one before birth. Where, in the name of all that is good, true and holy, is the difference? Let the man step forward that thinks he can show the distinction between the two. The Scripture still says, “You shall not murder” (Matthew 19:18). As Israel of old who would not hear, stiffened their necks, and sacrificed their children on altars of idolatrous worship (II Kings 17:13-18), even so are there many who “follow their sensuous ways” today by abortion (II Peter 2:2). They “shall receive the reward of unrighteousness” (II Peter 2:13).
