Are There Signs In The Bible To Let Us Know When The End of Time Will Come?
No. Millions of people are looking for the “signs of the second coming” when THERE ARE NO SIGNS! The scriptures people use to establish their belief are not talking about the second coming at all.
Matthew 24, where many thing they see “signs” of the second coming, is a totally misunderstood chapter with many. There are two distinct subjects under consideration (see v. 3). In the first 35 verses Jesus discusses the destruction of the city of Jerusalem (which occurred in 70 A.D.). He gives numerous “signs” as to when this would occur. He informs His disciples that when they see these “signs” they know the time of desolation is near and must escape from the city in order to survive (v. 33). That generation would not pass till it be fulfilled (v.34). Beginning in verse 36 He trust His attention to another question, His second coming, and gives a totally different description of that event.
There is a definite contrast between the Lord’s two answers. Though there were to be “signs” of the city’s destruction (vs. 5-15, 24, 33), there were to be no “signs” of His second coming in judgment (vs. 36, 42, 44, 50)! He uses several illustrations to prove this point: Noah and the flood (vs. 37-39), the ties (vs. 43-44), the ten virgins (25:1-13), the parable of the talents (25:14-30) and the judgment scene (25:31-46). Each of these shows that men will be totally unaware of the time of the Lord’s coming! No one will have “observed the signs” and made ready for it! “But concerning THAT DAY and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. . . . Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. . . .Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. . . . the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know . . .13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” (Matthew 24:36, 42, 44, 50; 25:13).
A thief does not announce his coming and neither does the Lord! But Jesus will come again, that fact is sure and certain! The conclusion is, since we have no idea as to when the Lord will come, we must prepare NOW and always be ready (v.42)! If people prepare themselves for His coming, then it will not make any difference as to when He finally comes. They will be ready! Friend, are you ready for the Lord to come? Believe (John 8:24), Repent (Acts 17:30), Confess (Matthew 10:32), be Baptized (Mark 16:16), be Faithful (1 Corinthians 15:58).
